We are looking for submissions for our Spring issue: FLORA.
Remember that weird fuzzy wallpaper in your grandmother’s house – the one with the vines and the little flowers that you rubbed with your finger while she watched Wheel of Fortune? Or what about the time you got poison ivy all over your face right before Freshman orientation at college? What has your garden taught you about the world?
Plants, plants, and more plants – rubber or real, aromatic or aggressive, memorial or imaginary: tell us your stories. Plants can be central, metaphorical, literal, or only a prompt to get you thinking about another tale you have to tell.
Hiking trips, houseplants, garden varieties, heirlooms, children who grow like weeds, parking strips, fig leaves on sculptures, mermaid memories with seaweed hair, Midwestern lake swimming with pond weeds wrapped around your ankles, the flowers on a grave, the meditative power of yard work, raking, mowing, tree-hugging, forest defense, herbal remedies, urban gleaning projects, yule logs, floral perfumes, horrid tablecloths with enormous daisies, girls named Iris you kissed behind the bushes, muumuus with anthurium prints, growing a bean in a cup…
Deadline for submissions: February 28th, 2010.

You are a creative person. You are driven, crafty, and unusual. You have secret ambitions – and some not-so-secret. You write, sometimes in journals, sometimes on napkins, sometimes on your friend’s back with the tip of your finger. You have had interesting adventures, and plan on having many more.
You want others to know your work.
Submit!!
Send us your polished and unpolished gems, your discoveries, your obsessions, your letters, your fears. We want to hear your ideas and stories. Note that we are a non-fiction journal - we are looking for investigative articles, critical essays, and tales drawn from life.
All writers whose work is accepted will be invited to attend an editing workshop-potluck prior to publication, and to perform a reading at the release party!
